On Monday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the $100,000 Evening Attire Stakes, named after the popular New York campaigner. The race will be contested at a mile and a sixteenth and has drawn a field of seven colts and geldings.
Headlining the field at morning line odds of 7-5 is the coupled entry of Micromanage and Village Warrior for trainer Todd Pletcher. Village Warrior, a four-year-old son of Majestic Warrior purchased for $200,000 by Repole Stable, will have Angel Arroyo aboard and will likely be forwardly placed. Micromanage comes into this race off of consecutive stakes wins and is a seven-time career winner. Manuel Franco will be back aboard the five-year-old son of Medaglia d’Oro.
Stormin Monarcho trying to return to form
Second choice at 5-2 on the morning line is Stormin Monarcho for trainer David Jacobson. A five-year-old gelded son of Monarchos, he is a nine-time career winner and is trying to rebound after finishing fifth as the favorite in the Native Dancer Stakes last time out at Laurel Park over a muddy main track and was fourth behind Micromanage two starts back. He won five of his thirteen starts last year and will be reunited with Cornelio Velasquez from post position six.
Well-bred North Slope switching back to dirt
Also in the field at morning line odds of 10-1 is North Slope for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. A five-year-old son of Elusive Quality, the bay gelding is switching back to the main track after racing on turf in his recent efforts. He has won four of his nineteen career starts and all four wins came on the lawn. He has been training steadily for his first start of the year and will get a jockey change to Dylan Davis from post position three.
