At 1/2 on the morning line Songbird is deserving of heavy favoritism following her most recent triumph in the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes. The champion filly is unbeaten and untested in ten starts, with no horse coming closer than 3 3/4-lenghts of the speedy Jerry Hollendorfer trainee. Songbird has won at four different racetracks and takes her game to Parx in search of another big score.
The big horse will be confronted by a pair of grade 1 winners in Carina Mia (5/1) and Cathryn Sophia (5/2). Carina Mia was defeated over five lengths by Songbird while running second in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks July 24, but may have run better than that result indicates, challenging Songbird nose and nose in the stretch before fading. Cathryn Sophia may have an edge after taking to the local dirt with an easy prep win in the September 3 Princess of Sylmar Stakes at Parx.
