The $150,000 Marshuas River a Grade 3 stakes event kicks off the late pick four January 10 at Gulfstream Park as a strong field of ten fillies and mares are set to contest the mile and one sixteenth event on the turf.
Parranda is the 8/5 favorite after most recently finishing sixth in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf. The six year-old daughter of English Channel, trained by Christophe Clement has won 10 of 28 lifetime starts and 6 of 12 on the Gulfstream turf. Jockey John Velazquez will have the mount breaking from post number three. Parranda’s ability to track the early leaders and finish strong should allow Velazquez to work out a favorable trip.
Summer Moon (7/2) will be making her first start in the United States after posting three wins in seven starts in her native France. Chad Brown has taken over the training duties and has excelled in the past with European imports connecting at 23% with runners making their first start in North America. Summer Moon appears to be working well at Palm Meadows, and will receive Lasix for the first time in her career. Julien Leparoux has the mount breaking from post number 7.
With the top two expected to take the lion’s share of the wagering dollars, Ready Signal (15/1) could represent excellent value if she stays near her morning line price. The Amy Tarrant trainee has speed figures that fit in well with this group and makes her second start off the layoff.
