My Miss Sophia (5/2) tried the turf for the first time June 5 at Belmont versus allowance foes and responded in a big way with a resounding 4-length win. Prior to that effort, the talented filly ran a dull fifth in the Grade 1 La Troienne on dirt at Churchill Downs, but may have simply needed the race after spending nine months away from racing. The four year-old daughter of Unbridled’s Song demonstrated major ability as a three year-old, running second in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks behind eventual Female Horse of the Year, Untapable. My Miss Sophia also won the Grade 2 Gazelle in 2014. Joel Rosario will retain the mount breaking from post 6.
Tepin goes for fourth straight
Tepin (3/1) has been a front-running force in her last three starts, including wins in the Grade 2 Churchill Distaff Stakes and Grade 1 Just a Game Stakes. The Mark Casse-trained filly is in career-best form as she looks to record her fourth straight win. With career earnings of $955,973, Tepin will surpass the million-dollar earnings mark with a top-four finish.
Classy filly always in the hunt
It’s always hard to discount Stephanie’s Kitten (7/2), who has enjoyed a stellar career with 9 wins in 21 starts, including 8 at the graded stakes level. The Chad Brown trainee should be sharper after finishing fourth in the Grade 2 New York Stakes June 5 following a three-month break from racing.
