Eight Juveniles Signed on for $150,000 Legacy Stakes at Delta
The $150,000 Louisiana Legacy Stakes for two year-old colts and geldings Saturday, November 22 at Delta Downs is the second of eight stakes races on the Delta Jackpot card.
The field of eight is set to go one mile on the main track with 2/1 morning line favorite Contangold tabbed as the one to beat. The Bob Young trainee came back from a two month layoff in his last start to win going impressively in his first start at Delta Downs against allowance foes drawing away by four lengths in the stretch. The two year-old gelded son of Half Ours is two for four in his career and has shown a professional stalk and pounce style in each of his wins.
Four Leaf Chief returns from layoff
Four Leaf Chief (3/1) will have to overcome some rust after being away since a fourth place effort in the Evening Dawn Stakes August 30. In three career starts, the Steve Flint trainee has two wins including his best performance – a two length victory in the Louisiana Cup Juvenile – the only time he has raced on a fast dirt track. As a son of former juvenile champion Lookin’ At Lucky, Four Leaf Chief certainly has a right to improve in his return, but he might only need to regain his pre-layoff form to find the winner’s circle.
Sharp maiden victor tries stakes foes
Cook Some Rice (6/1) handled straight maidens in his last start earning a Beyer Speed Figure that would be competitive against this group. His near-the-pace style could play well in a field without much speed.
