On Saturday at Aqueduct, the track will host the first running of the $70,000 Xtra Heat Stakes. Named after the popular sprinter, the six-furlong contest will be run on the inner track and has drawn a field of eight fillies and mares.
My Savannah Belle has been tabbed as the morning line favorite in the wide open field at odds of 5-2 for trainer Assaf Ronen. A four-year-old daughter of Afleet Alex purchased for $65,000 as a juvenile, she has won two of her four starts and will be making her stakes debut. After winning the first two starts of her career, she was second against allowance company last time out in her second start of the year. Irad Ortiz, Jr. will be in the irons from post position six.
Here's Zealicious going for first win of the year
Second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 is Here’s Zealicious for trainer Naipaul Chatterpaul. A seven-year-old daughter of Here’s Zealous bred in New York, she has won eleven times over the course of her career. Though winless from three outings this year, she has been on the board in all three and was last seen finishing second against state-bred optional claiming company. Angel Arroyo will be aboard from the outside post.
Violet Hour aiming for first stakes win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Violet Hour for trainer Richard Schosberg. A five-year-old daughter of Elusive Quality, she has won three of her sixteen starts and will compete with blinkers for the first time as she attempts to earn her first black type win. She has been fourth in her last two starts and has been training steadily since her last race in January. Jose Ortiz will be aboard for the first time and they will break from post position four.
