2016 Penn Mile Contenders

The filly Catch A Glimpse will line up against six males as the 2-1 morning line favorite for the 2016 Penn Mile, which has produced a strong field, with only one runner in double-digit ML odds. Trained by Mark Casse, Catch A Glimpse has won six straight, including the 2015 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, and will be going for her fourth consecutive Grade 3 victory. She is part of a tough 1-2 Casse punch, as he'll also send out Airoforce (7-2), winless in three starts this year, after taking three-of-four as a juvenile, as well as runnning second in the 2015 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. Also in the field is Oscar Nominated (5-1) who was supplemented to the Kentucky Derby after capturing the (G3) Spiral Stakes, but who seemed out of his element in the Run for the Roses, finishing 17th in the field of 20. Second ML choice for the Penn Mile is Beach Patrol (3-1) who stepped up from a win at the allowance level last out to run second in the (G2) American Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs on Derby day.

Entries and ML Odds

1) Silent Waters (30-1)

2) Airoforce (7-2)

4) Catch A Glimpse (2-1)

6) Giant Run (6-1)

Did you know?

The inaugural running of the Penn Mile, in 2013, set records at Penn National for all-sources and on-track handle. As mentioned earlier, Rydilluc was the winner of the inaugural $500,000 purse, with Charming Kitten coming in second. Charming Kitten's previous race was the Kentucky Derby.

Rydilluc was able to grab an early lead in the race and then pull away at the end, winning by three-quarters of a length. Jack Milton finished not far behind Charming Kitten for third place in the Penn Mile. Another prominent horse, Noble Tune, took part in the race. Noble Tune had won the Grade 2 American Turf, which was held at Churchill Downs.
